For
a long time, the Qur’an had been something of a hidden book. It was written
in Arabic and most Muslims do not read and understand Arabic. In fact many
Muslim men who are Hafiz, which means they have memorized the Qur’an in
Arabic, do not understand what it says! On many occasions, I have talked
with those who knew the Qur’an from memory, but they had no idea what it
said, because they did not understand Arabic. SEGMENT 2 The Before Scriptures The Qur’an speaks of some Books that it calls the “Scriptures that were before”. It also tells us the name of these books. They are the Tawrat, the Zaboor, and the Injiil.
The Tawrat
(English; “Torah”) means “The Law”. This Book contains the story of the
creation, and the story of how Allah worked in the world from Adam to
Ibrahim; then from Ibrahim to Musa (to whom Allah gave His Law), and from
Musa the coming of Isa Masih. The Zaboor are the Psalms of Dawood. These
Psalms were actually songs about the greatness of Allah. They teach us many
wonderful things about Allah and His ways. They were sung by what the
Qur’an calls the “People of the Scripture”, who were the people of Israel.
The Injiil, (English; Gospel) is the Book about the life, teaching and
commands of Isa Masih. SEGMENT 3 The Great Mystery of the Ages We see The “Before Scriptures” reveal to us that at some point long ago there was a rebellion in heaven. Shatan was created by Allah as one His most beautiful creatures. He is described for us in the Before Scriptures:
You were the
seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in the
Garden of Eden, the garden of Allah. You were perfect in your ways from
the day you were created until iniquity (sin) was found in you.
SEGMENT 4 Remember that for 1100 years after Allah sent the Law to the people of Israel, the message of the prophets was the same. They called the people to follow the Law of Allah; but when they sinned, they were to bring the Qurbani with a sincere heart and genuine sorrow over their sin. Then for a period of 400 years no prophet came to Israel. But, they were still, as the Qur’an calls them, “the people of the Book (Scriptures)”. They had the Tawrat and Zaboor to remind them of the ways of Allah. SEGMENT 5 The Most Important Question in the World There are many very important questions in life. Who will I marry? Where will I live? What will my career be? How much education will I get? These are all very important questions, but they are not the most important question. What is the most important question in the world? The most important question is this – What will happen to me when I die? The way I answer these other questions may affect me for the rest of my life, but how I answer this question will affect me forever!
